Love Thy Neighbor

Last night, I heard a man say," Your neighbor's problems are your problems, unless you choose not to care. The world is shrinking into one village." This struck a chord with me on a few levels. The man who spoke these words was an African musician. He was a part of a project called Playing for Change, Peace Through Music. This is a great and inspirational project. They record musicians from all around the globe singing and playing the same songs, each adding their own personal and cultural influence. Then they over dub the songs to make beautiful music, even though the musicians are worlds apart.

We can learn a lot from this concept. The world, even made up of all these different sounds, colors, and cultures, is a beautiful place to live. Individually, every culture has made mistakes. Some are making them still. We are all growing and learning. That makes it beautiful. The innovations in technology have made our world of communities a community of neighbors. The fact that I can write this here in South Carolina and share it with people in New York or the UK is a testament to that. The world, growing in population is shrinking to envelope everyone into a global community. Our neighbors are in need of something that we can give. To some it is a word of encouragement to others it is a bite to eat.

We personally have the responsibility to do the right thing by our neighbors. We have been called by God to love and help our neighbors. They are suffering. I call for each of you today to reach out and help someone. If you don't want to do it personally, donate to a charity and help them to make one of our neighbor's lives a little better. If you choose not to help that is your choice as well. No one has the right to make you do anything. Thank you all for being my neighbors. I am proud to be a part of your community.
