Having a baby is a big change in your life. Every aspect of your life becomes a building block into who this new little person will become. They will pick up everything from your speech patterns to subtle mannerisms like talking with their hands. You are going to give this child everything and it starts with a name. This is a big decision. These few words will be the identity of a person for the rest of his or her life. In a lot of cases, it will be the first impression some will perceive of your little one. How then can one make such a monumental decision for someone else that you don't even know yet? Here are ten things to consider to help you make one of the biggest choices you will make for you child.

1. Number of names
It is common to give a child three names: first, middle, and last. It is also becoming more popular to give children more names. Keep in mind though that if they have more then three names they may have some difficulties filing out some forms when they get older.

2. Family History
Family names are often passed as well. Would you like to honor your Grandma by giving your child the same name? Keep in mind that popular names back then are not so popular or ‘cool' now. You don't hear of very many girls named Eunice anymore (Sorry Eunice! I believe you to have a wonderful name and you are a lovely lady that I dearly hope I did not offend in any way!) Consider giving these as middle names. You may also want to think about making the young'un a Jr.

3. Religion
For some parents this can be a great source of names, Most Catholics give their babies the names of saints and a lot of Jews give names found in the old testament. Keep this in mind; the majority of people in the western hemisphere have names from the bible.

4. Meaning
Most names have a meaning. Steven means "Crowned" a name that suites me to a T! These meanings can help you decide between a few names or give you inspiration when you are lost for ideas.

5. Initials
Some people give names because the initials spell a word. I knew a girl once who gave her son the name Tasia Hank because combined with the last name the initials spelled T.H.C. representing the main psychoactive substance found in the cannabis plant. That may sound neat now but what kind of message will that send to her kids or one day the people looking to give little T.H.C. a job.

6. Celebertiey names
I was watching Glee a while back and one of the charactors turns to his preganant girlfriend and annouces that he has found the perfect name for the baby. He took inspiration from Gwenith Paltrow's baby name, Apple. He wanted something unusual and declared that the baby's name should be drizzle. It sounds funny but happens frequently. Here is a list of celebety baby names: Audio Science, Atlanta, Alchamy, Bamboo, Banjo, Blue Angel, Bow-Ty, Boston, Coco, and my favorites from Frank Zappa; Dweezil. (son) Ahmet Emuukha Rodan (son), Moon Unit (daughter), Diva Muffin (daughter) I would like to thank Innocentenglish.com for the list.

7. Stereotypes
Many names create a positive or negative reaction when they are heard. Keep this in mind before making "Bubba" official and legal.

8. Uniqueness
The popularity or uniqueness of a name can impact the way you child is initially accepted by it peers. It is common to find Johns and Steves, but you don't see many Banjos or Boston. Keep this in mind as some names welcome ridicule.

All in all, naming another human being can be a challenge. Regardless of your child's name they are a blessing from above. As long as you show your baby all the love you have and teach them to be strong independent men and women it won't matter what you call them.
